The Year of the Manufacturing Voter

The midterm election results confirm that NAM members and their employees helped make 2014 the “Year of the Manufacturing Voter,” supporting candidates in both parties who are willing to lead, rather than candidates who ran on partisan platforms.

“Manufacturers were engaged in this election more than ever before,” said NAM President and CEO Jay Timmons in a post-election press statement. “Whether supporting pro-manufacturing candidates through the NAM’s Political Action Committee, educating voters through the NAM’s 2014 Election Center or delivering boots on the ground in critical states with the help of the NAM’s travel teams, manufacturers showed up in force and spoke as one voice in support of creating jobs and igniting widespread, continued economic growth.”

The NAM’s dynamic voter registration, education and get-out-the-vote efforts reached an audience of more than 3 million potential voters nationwide. “Today, we are looking at a stronger delegation for manufacturers in Washington thanks to the business community’s stepped-up involvement,” Timmons said at the NAM’s Post-Election Briefing on November 5 featuring The Cook Political Report National Editor Amy Walter, former Gov. and Sen. George Allen (R-VA) and former Sen. Blanche Lincoln (D-AR).

“The manufacturing message to the President and Congress is very basic: It’s time to govern—to come together for real solutions that allow us to take full advantage of our high productivity, world-leading innovation and the domestic energy boom,” said Timmons. He implored the President and Congress to “just solve problems.” Click here for his post-election video message, “Now Is the Time to Govern.”

“What we hope the next Congress will do is focus on policies that drive competitiveness and drive growth,” NAM Senior Vice President of Policy and Government Relations Aric Newhouse told The Wall Street Journal
