MTI Apprenticeship Task Force & Board of Trustees Approve Curriculum

posted on 07.17.14

Over the past six months, a newly formed task group, the Apprenticeship Task Group, has been working on revising the old MTI apprenticeship program that was approved by the Department of Labor through the old Heat Treat Network.

The idea to revise the program came out of a calling by some members for MTI to invest in a new program that members could send employees through that would invest them in learning with their company for several years, giving the member the opportunity to build a knowledgeable and loyal employee.

The Apprenticeship Task Force, made up of over 15 heat treaters and suppliers, has been prioritizing a number of important issues including:

– How long the new program should last?

– What content should be presented to the students?

– What key learning objectives should the program teach?

– What on-the-job activities should be required?

Recently, the Apprenticeship Task Force submitted a 24-month curriculum to the Board of Trustees for approval.  MTI is excited to announce the draft  curriculum has been approved.

The next stage for the task force is to move forward with content production and development of on-the-job case studies and activities to be performed as a part of the training process.  In October, the Board will be looking at different platforms to host the online learning portion.  Once that decision is made, MTI will move quickly into producing each element of the Apprenticeship Program.

The task force is in hopes that the new training program can be launched sometime in 2015.  If you have any questions regarding the Apprenticeship Program, feel free to contact Tom Morrison at the MTI office at 904-249-0448.
